Paul was content because he could see life from God's point of view. He focused on what he was supposed to do, not what he felt he should have. Paul had his priorities straight, and he was grateful for everything God had given him. Paul had detached himself from the trivia in life so he could focus on the eternal. 

Often the desire for more or better possessions is really a longing to fill an empty place in a person's life. What are we drawn to if we feel empty inside? How can we find true contentment? The answer of course lies in our perspective, our priorities and where our source of truth and joy comes from - and of course that should always be Jesus.

As we spend time with Him and get to know Him in a deeper way the 'things of this world' naturally decrease and He becomes greater.

We all know that prayer is the foundation for our lives and it is the foundation for everything we do here in ministry. As I was praying today, I was petitioning God for an answer to a situation in my life. I finished, packed up my Bible and moved on to the next task I had to do for the day. Then it occurred to me - although I had asked God for an answer, I didn't wait to hear what it might be! I know God can talk to us at any time and the answer might not be immediate but today I asked the question and then 'got on' with my day. Imagine if someone did that to us - asked us a question and then turned around and walked off without waiting for the answer. We could feel quite offended or at the very least wonder why they even bothered asking. 

So back to prayer it was and (after saying sorry!) as I waited, a picture began to emerge which I will continue to pray into. That can be one of the problems of our busy lives - we don't treat God with the respect and reverence He deserves. We need to make time to spend in prayer so we can talk with Him each and everyday. It is the solid foundation we must base our whole life on.

It's good to be back amongst you all as the year gets well underway. Thank you to all of you who have helped over the time we have been away and have also assisted and been patient as we ease our way into the new (and hopefully not too long) way of doing church. There will be teething problems but we know that grace abounds amongst us and we will sort these as soon as we can. If you have any concerns please just talk to one of our Leadership Team.

I have been reading through the book of Nehemiah and been inspired by the strength of his character and leadership. He clearly knew what God was calling him to do and set his sights firmly on that. Of course it didn't come without opposition! How do we respond when we face times of difficulty or opposition in our lives and in doing God's work? When this happens to us it can be tempting to pray "God, please get me out of this situation". Nehemiah could well have thought to ask that of God. But he didn't - instead he prayed "strengthen my hands". He showed tremendous determination and character to remain steadfast in his responsibility. As the year progresses let this be our prayer also.

As we stand with our backs to last year and all that it held, both good and not so good, we now look forward to the year ahead and all it holds. The new year brings a new start and new opportunities. I am reminded of the Israelites as they stood with Joshua looking forward to a new era ahead. They had wandered for 40 years in the desert and finally they could see a land flowing with milk and honey. Better yet they had God's promise that He would never leave them or forsake them. 

As we look forward to 2022 we have the hope of the promises of God. There is no doubt that we will face both trials and joy as the year progresses but we can be reassured by God's Word that He is with us always. That promise alone should be enough to give us the courage and boldness we need as we press into the call of God on each of our lives.

Our family is away on our summer holiday (a little later than usual this year!) from Monday Jan 24th - February 7th. If you have any questions or need to contact anyone please contact Rachel from our Leadership Team in the first instance.
