As we grow closer to the time when Jesus will return I find myself and many others saying "Maranatha - come Lord Jesus!". We long for the fulfillment of scripture when we will be united with our Lord and Saviour. The earth as we know it will not last forever, but after God's great judgement He will create a new earth. 

The New Jerusalem is where God lives among His people. Instead of our going up to meet Him, He comes down to be with us, just as God became man in Jesus Christ and lived among us. Wherever God reigns, there is peace, security and love....and so much more! I'm sure we've all wondered what eternity will be like. The "holy city, New Jerusalem" is described as the place where God will "wipe away every tear from their eyes." Forevermore, there will be no death, pain, sorrow or crying. What an amazing truth! Whatever we are going through, it is not the last word - God has written the final chapter and it is about true fulfillment and eternal joy for those who love Him.

Throughout the book of 1st and 2nd Kings we see king after king 'not do right in the Lord's eyes'. They were evil and refused to follow His ways. They were given opportunity after opportunity to turn back to the Lord and to take down the high places but they refused and continued to live in their sin.

God sent prophets to warn them and priests to teach them how to live. God required that they fear Him and follow His statutes, ordinances, the law and His commandments. He called them to worship Him alone and not to forget the covenant He made with His people. He required them not to bow to other gods and idols. In return for living this way He would deliver them from the hand of all their enemies. 

How are we doing in regards to the above? What and who is it that we worship? Can we truthfully say it is God alone? Are their idols in our lives that we are bowing down to? As I examine my own heart I encourage you to also do the same. God is looking for a 'pure and spotless Bride' and that starts with each one of us.

“The LORD’s unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him. Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!” Psalm 32:10-11

God sees and allows every detail of our lives. Nothing happens without His knowledge and approval. Every day, little changes in schedule or small irritations occur. Every day, we can choose to let these obstacles upset us, or we can rest in the knowledge that God lovingly ordained them as small irritants to help us look to and rely on Him. For example, we can grumble about the frustrating traffic jam that is keeping us from getting somewhere on time, or we can remember that God knows about our deadlines and view the time sitting in traffic as an opportunity to pray. We can complain, or we can rejoice.

May we allow the knowledge that we are continually surrounded by God’s unfailing love to permeate our lives and choose to allow it to override our complaints and fears.

As the Messiah, Jesus fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament by coming to earth. He did not come as a conquering king but He came as a servant. He helped mankind by telling them about God and healing them. Even more than that, by giving His life as a sacrifice for sin, He carried out the ultimate act of service.

Because of Jesus' example, we should be willing to serve God and others. Real greatness in Christ's kingdom is shown by service and sacrifice - not as a way to earn our salvation but as a way of showing our great love for Him. Ambition or love of power or position should never be our motive. We must also be careful not to be simply 'instruments' of God - only giving lip service and carrying out acts of service. We must be 'servants' of God, giving Him the heartfelt obedience He desires of us.
