Heroes are easier to admire than to define. They are seldom conscious of their moments of heroism, and others may not reconise their acts as heroic. Heroes simply do the right thing at the right time, whether or not they realise the impact their action will have. One quality they may share is a tendency to think of others before they think of themselves. 

When I think of heroes, I think of some particular qualities - being sensitive to others needs, full of words of kindness, and offering help willingly. Heroes not only do what is right, but they also do it the right way in the situations they face. The Bible is full of 'heroes of the faith' who exhibit these and many more Godly qualities.

We are faced with choices on a daily basis. Sometimes we can be more concerned with making the easy choice than with making the right one. Yet, more often than not, the right choice is clear. We must be wise and ask God to give us a special awareness in our choices today as well as renewed commitment to make the right ones, even if it means going against the tide. He will give us the strength and courage we need to face the giants and pursue righteousness.

We can see quite plainly in the scriptures how much Paul cared and loved the believers he spoke to, encouraged, warned, exhorted, walked with and lived with. This was so much so that in Acts 20 we read "'for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears" and "then they all wept freely and fell on Paul's neck and kissed him..."

Paul's relationship with these believers is a beautiful example of Christian fellowship. He had cared for them and loved them and even cried over their needs. They responded with love and care for him and sorrow over his leaving. They had prayed together and comforted one another. Like Paul, we can build strong relationships with other Christians by sharing, caring, sorrowing, rejoicing and praying with them. We will gather others around us as we give ourselves away to them. To this end I encourage those who aren't already part of a Life Group here at BBC to be involved in one as these are places where we build deeper relationships with one another.

I'm sure many of us have heard the saying about the definition of insanity - that it is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result! Maybe you feel like your life is stuck in a rut. Each day it is the same thing and you feel like life is becoming monotonous and boring. You may find yourself asking what am I doing? What is my purpose in life? 

In Matthew 6:33 we read 'but seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.' I think the key word in relation to what I'm talking about here is 'seek'. We actively need to 'attempt or desire to obtain' first, the kingdom of God and His righteousness. This is an action word! We need to give it 100% with all our heart, soul and mind. Read the bible, spend time with God, worship Him, pray, fast, listen, seek Godly counsel.....the list goes on! We need to be the ones to create change otherwise we will never see a different result. My encouragement today is to put this FIRST - before anything else. God is faithful and trustworthy and He won't let us down.

A bad attitude is something people can have without even realising it. A person may think they are just having private inner thoughts, yet people pick up on attitude, even if they don't know exactly what it is. We can also have critical attitudes toward others. Sometimes finding fault in others can cause us to feel better about ourselves as terrible as that may sound! These attitudes can permeate our personality, bring division among others and limit friendships. 

It is so important that we seek the Holy Spirit and ask Him to reveal any of these attitudes that may be in us. They are certainly not pleasing to God. When we rid ourselves with the help of the Holy Spirit of anger, anxiety, fear, pride or a critical spirit and pursue righteousness we will discover God's goodness, grace, love, peace, joy and power in our lives. And isn't that the kind of person God is calling us to be?
