God gives us gifts so we can build up His church. To use them effectively we must realise that all gifts and abilities come from God and also understand that not everyone has the same gifts. We also need to know who we are and what we do best and dedicate our gifts to God's service and not to our personal success. We must also be willing to use our gifts wholeheartedly, not holding back anything from God's service. 

God's gifts differ in nature, power and effectiveness according to  His wisdom and graciousness, not according to our faith. God will give spiritual power necessary and appropriate to carry out each responsibility. We cannot by our own effort or willpower drum up more faith and therefore be more effective teachers or servants. These are God's gifts to His church and He gives faith and power as He wills. Our role is to be faithful and to seek ways to serve others with what Christ has given us. If you are unsure of your spiritual gifts, talk to others who know you well and ask them what gifts they observe in you. We also have resources available that will help you identify them if you need help. Let us not waste time in using what God has given to each of us in order to see His Kingdom come.

We often talk about and hear testimony of how we must take God's great message of salvation to others so that they can respond to the Good News. How will our loved ones, neighbours and workmates hear it unless someone tells them? God is calling all of us to take a part in making His message known in our community and with those we interact with. Who is the one person you know who needs to hear the Good News and what is one thing or the next step we can do to help them hear it?

Many Jews who looked for the Messiah refused to believe in Him when He came. God offered His salvation to the Gentiles and many Gentiles who didn't even know about a Messiah found and believed in Him. Some religious people are spiritually blind, while those who have never been in a church are sometimes the most responsive to God's message. Because appearances are deceiving, and we can't see into people's hearts, we must also beware of judging beforehand who will respond to the gospel and who won't. Let us all be praying for who God wants us to reach out to next and what that might look like for each one of us.

There is a biblical principle that the 'multiplying of partnership in prayer, multiplies the dimension of impact'. It is taken from the Lord, who said that five will chase a hundred, and a hundred will put ten thousand to flight (Leviticus 28:8). It is not a matter of saying God is obligated because of the number, but there is a penetrating power when there is agreement in prayer. Agreeing is like striking notes in harmony. The words 'one accord' convey the idea of people all having the same temperature - the same degree of passion and the same degree of focus. 

This reality calls us to pray together, believing the same way about what is possible. This is one of the reasons I love our weekly and monthly prayer meetings. We get focused and pray specifically for situations that the Lord leads us to. To this end I would encourage us all to make an effort to get to either the weekly Thursday prayer meeting at 12 noon or the monthly (3rd Wednesday) prayer meeting at 7:30pm - which is this coming week on the 19th July. Many have accepted Christ as Saviour yet are not living according to His plan and will. This was the sin of the Hebrew children who knew full well the miracle-working power of their God and had experienced His supernatural provision. They had received manna from heaven, water from a rock, a miraculous rescue from Pharoah and more. Yet again and again they turned away from Him. This unwillingness to walk in God's ways caused the entire generation that escaped from Egypt to die in the wilderness without ever experiencing the Promised Land.

Believers today have been given much more than the Israelites. We have been given the very Bread of Life, salvation provided by Jesus Himself. He has saved us, cleansed us from our sins, adopted us into His family, given us His Word as our guide, His Holy Spirit as our Comforter and everything pertaining to life and godliness. We have been given so much, and Jesus said, "To whom much is given, from him much will be required" (Lk 12:48) What are we doing with the much we have been given?
