No matter what happens in our lives, we must never give up on the Lord, for He will never give up on us. God never changes. He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). He has promised many things in His Word to us, including hope and a great future. So no matter what happens, those promises will stand.

Everyday we must put our future in God's hands, because the most important thing about our future is what He says, not what man says. He is our future and our future will be found by walking with Him today. When we do that, God will be preparing us each day for the future He has for us. We mustn't get discouraged if things don't seem to be happening as quickly as we would like. They seldom do! And that is probably because while God is making things happen in our lives, He is also doing an even more important work inside of us. There are always lessons He wants us to learn. Let us ask Him to help us to learn them well.

When trouble loomed for King Jehoshaphat as his army paled in comparison to the forces united against them, what did he do? He recognised his limitations and knew it was essential to call on God for help. So he reached out to his nation, and prayer support came from all across the land.

Sometimes we can be too proud to ask others to pray with us. When that happens we should remind ourselves of Jehoshaphat’s example – though as king he reigned over his people, he nevertheless called on them to join him in seeking divine intervention. Then as the people began to pray God provided His solution through a prophet and Jehoshaphat had the humility to listen and follow instructions. As a result, his people were saved. There will be times in our lives when we too need to humble ourselves and ask others to pray with us, rather than struggle on alone. God created us in a family, with brothers and sisters in Christ who are there to encourage us, support us and pray with us.

Corporate prayer as we can see from King Jehoshaphat’s example is essential. To that end, can I encourage as many of you as possible to join with us this Wednesday 21^st June at 7:30pm, in the lounge for our monthly prayer meeting.

When we do not recognise our need for God and fail to come to Him to be strengthened and rejuvenated in His presence, He allows things to happen to us which cause us to become painfully aware of our lack. If we are not actively seeking the Lord's presence on a daily basis we can stray out from under His covering of protection to where bad things can happen. And that is a dangerous place to be.

Anyone who doesn't recognise their need for the Lord is trying to fulfill their needs in some way that is empty. They will probably become hooked on it and obsessed with it to the point of idolising it and allowing it to numb them to the voice of God speaking to their heart. They are missing all God has for them. Utter dependance on God is not only a place of freedom but also the safest and most fulfilling place for us to be. When we are filled with things other than God, we will always hunger. If we know we are hungry and seek to be filled by God, we will never hunger for anything else.

God works in "all things" - not just isolated incidents - for our good. This does not mean that all that happens to us is good. Evil is prevalent in our fallen world, but God is able to turn every circumstance around for our ultimate good. God however is not working to make us happy, but to fulfill His purpose. And the promise that "all things work together for good" is not a promise to everybody. It can be claimed only by those who love God and are called according to His purpose. We who are "called" are those who have made Jesus Christ Saviour and Lord of our life. When this happens we have  a new mind-set, and a new perspective on life. We trust in God, not life's treasures; we look for our security in heaven, not on earth and we learn to accept, not resent, pain and persecution because God is with us. 

God's ultimate goal for us is to make us like Christ. As we become more and more like Him, we discover our true selves, the people we were created to be.
