How do you wake up in the mornings? Is it like me and by an alarm - and then do you hit the snooze button....?! Do you lie in bed and slowly wake up or do you leap out of bed when you’re awake? There are many ways to wake up, but most of us probably lie in bed for a moment or longer to orient ourselves. As you begin to orient yourself  do you begin to think about your day and what lies ahead of you? What do your thoughts dwell on?

Everyday we have a choice to make when we wake up. Will our day be for God or for ourselves? It is amazing how quickly we can make ourselves, our schedules and our to-do lists become centre most in our minds without giving a passing thought to God who we proclaim as Lord and Saviour.

If you don’t already, can I encourage us all to take a moment to identify the things, the thoughts, the activities and/or the emotions that can distract us each day and keep us from worshipping God and serving Him. Let’s make Him the first thing we dwell on in the morning so we place Him first......and then watch how our day plays out!

At our recent Women's Camp we studied the character of God through the book of Psalms. This great collection of songs and prayers expresses the heart and soul of humanity. In them, the whole range of human experience is expressed. David and other writers honestly pour out their true feelings, reflecting a dynamic, powerful and life changing relationship with God. They confess their sins, express their doubts and fears, ask God for help in times of trouble and praise and worship Him.

Whether despairing or rejoicing, the writers are honest with God. Because of this honesty, men and women throughout history have come repeatedly to the book of Psalms for comfort during times of struggle and hardship - I know this is the first book I turn too! And from reading this book they have risen from the depths of despair to new heights of joy and praise as they also have discovered the power of God's everlasting love and forgiveness. 

Let us too, as we meditate on these Psalms, let the honesty of the psalmists guide us into a deeper and more genuine relationship with God.

For the person who aims to live a life of resilience, as well as being a determined follower of Jesus Christ, don’t be surprised when some people express their discomfort around you because you are believing God to come through for you. Despite what is going on in or around you, remain resilient in what God has called you to accomplish and the race He has you on. During the moments of life when you feel tired, weary and uncertain, that is when one’s resilience in Christ is essential.

God’s Word reveals several accounts in Scripture of individuals who maintained resilience during some of the most challenging battles and obstacles of life. Those who resiliently stood in faith despite what was happening to them witnessed God’s power and strength in their lives.

No matter the assignment God has you on, don’t give up. Although things are hard and people appear to not be able to relate with you, your God-honouring resilience and life of integrity is impacting more people than you’ll ever know. Maintain your faith as you exercise resilience and remember Hebrews 11:6: “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”

What does it mean to have faith in God? We are to fear and serve the Lord only, no-one else, and nothing else. We are however not able to worship Him completely because of our rebellion and sin. 

By choosing God we enter into a covenant with Him where He promises not only to forgive and love us, but also to enable us by His Spirit to do His work here on earth. This covenant requires us to turn away from principles and practices in society around us that are hostile to God's plan. These will continue to increase as we draw nearer in these end days.

But we need not fear and we don't need to do this alone. That is why we "don't forsake the gathering of the assembly" and why we gather together during the week to pray and study God's Word. Let us continue to make this a priority and to encourage and build one another up.
