Everywhere we look at the moment in the world there is fear and confusion. David said in the Psalms "What can flesh do to me?" How much harm can people do to us?....yes they can inflict pain, suffering and death but no person can rob us of our soul or our future beyond this life. The biggest harm we can do to ourselves is reject God and lose our eternal future. Jesus said, "Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul".  We must keep our eyes on Jesus, and daily walk with Him so we are not distracted by what is around us.  We must fear God, who ultimately controls this life and the next.

We had a wonderful time celebrating Scarlett’s baptism last week at the beach. We have a video of the occasion so if you would like to view it please let me know.

Someone sent me a quote this week that said “If you pursue righteousness you will find happiness. If you pursue happiness you will never find righteousness”. Food for thought!

One definition of righteousness is simply, right standing with God. Righteousness is the condition of being in right relationship with the Lord. This can only happen through total faith and dependence upon Christ. It comes when we confess our sin, repent from it and ask God to forgive us. There is no other way and there is nothing we can add to our faith to obtain right relationship with the Lord. Some people believe that it is through our actions that we become righteous. Nothing could be further from the truth. There is a relationship between our actions and our right standing with God but we are not made righteous by what we do. Righteousness is a gift that comes from the Lord to those who accept what Jesus has done for them by faith.

On the day of Jesus' crucifixion seven things (yes, there's that number!) happened to Jesus. His sweat became blood.The Roman soldiers struck Him in the face with their fists and rods. They flogged Him with a scourge. His beard was pulled out. Thorns were pressed deep into His scalp. His hands and feet were pierced with nails. His side was pierced with a spear.

It literally cost Jesus all He had. He didn't simply give up His glory, His throne, and His majesty. He didn't give up a few simple earthly possessions. He gave up Himself, His own blood poured out as the redemptive price for each one of us. That is the measure of God's love for us. Let's again today come with deep thankfulness for the incredible act that Jesus did for each one of us on the cross.

Christians are to rejoice. In order to do that we only need to think of the great things God has done for us. Then we are told not to be anxious, but in our prayers to make our requests known to God. In our biggest problems we have One to whom we can go; and before Him we can pour out our heart with the assurance that He will not leave us without an answer to that great problem. Then we are to fill our minds with those things that are good. They are mentioned in the Scriptures as being things that are true, honourable, just, pure, lovely, of good report, and of virtue. It is upon these things that we are to think. Live positively, not negatively. There is so much 'stuff' happening in the world around us that it is easy to get drawn into it. But let's not be those people - let's fix our eyes upon Jesus and live the life He calls each one of us to. This is the day the Lord has made - let us REJOICE and be glad in it!

The Blackie Family is away in Nelson this weekend celebrating my Dad’s 80th birthday. It is with grateful hearts that we thank the Thomas Family for leading and speaking at our service today.
