Most of us struggle at some time with spiritual discouragement and lethargy.  Some days our circumstances threaten to overwhelm us, and we struggle just to pray.  Many times we just don’t feel like doing the things we know we should.  For one reason or another, God sometimes seems far off and unreachable.

David faced times like these in his life.  The Psalms are filled with verses that express his despair and feeling of abandonment. Yet the Psalms also give us the key to living victoriously during the dark periods of life.  

My circumstances or feelings do not change God!  He is the same God today as He was when He created the world and fed the five thousand. Recalling God’s faithfulness and control over everything that touches us gives us strength to walk with God even when we feel like giving up in despair. He is perfectly capable of sustaining us if we will only let Him.  We simply need to choose to delight in and diligently consider God’s principles and character despite how we feel.  Choosing to delight in God might not be easy.  It might even involve hard work but it is key to our daily walk with Him.

Our salvation is a gracious gift from God. God chose us out of His love for us, Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sin, and the Holy Spirit cleansed us from sin when we believed. Eternal life is a wonderful privilege for those who trust in Christ.

Our safety and security are in God. If we experience joy in relationship with Christ now, how much greater will our joy be when He returns and we see Him face to face. Such a hope should motivate us to serve Christ with greater commitment every day.

We have the launch of the Hope Project booklet delivery this evening, Sunday March 7th at 7pm in the church. Please join with us and others from churches around the area to pray for our neighbourhood and all those around us that will be receiving the books in the lead up to Easter.

I read this and wanted to share it with you as encouragement to keep going! It is written by A.W. Tozer. What a challenge!

The truth is, dedication of the life to any thing or anyone short of God Himself, is a prostitution of noble powers and must bring a harvest of grief and disappointment at last. Only God is worthy of the soul He has made in His own image. To devote our lives to any cause, however worthy, is to sell ourselves short. Not money, position, fame, can justly claim our devotion. Art, literature, music also fall short. And, if God is forgotten, even the loftiest and most unselfish task is unworthy of the souls full surrender. Complete dedication unto death in the cause of freedom, for instance, is a touching thing and has given to history many of her greatest heroes, but only the God of freedom should have our last full measure of devotion. These are strenuous times and men are being recruited everywhere to devote themselves to one or another master. Let us be careful. No one has any true right to claim my life except the One who gave His own life for my redemption. If He gets my full dedication then I may engage in any good and worthy cause under His Spirit's guidance. But anything short of complete devotion to Christ is inadequate and must end in futility and loss.

At the Alabaster Camp I was on last weekend the only time the girls were fully engaged and quiet was during the teaching sessions when we were reading and studying the Bible together. 

When asked about the power of the Bible, Martin Luther stated “When God speaks a word, the thing that the word expresses immediately leaps to life.” We see it in God’s “sustaining all things by His powerful word” (Heb 1:3) Only God’s word has the resurrection power to bring all who are dead in their sins to life.

Have you heard God speaking to your heart through His Word? If you have known God awhile, think about times when you read or heard God’s Word and it sparked a change in you. Think about how God’s Word produces beauty and life and blessing. Read God’s Word, share it, study it, and ask Him to plant it in your heart.

God spoke, and our world came into being. God still speaks through Scripture today, bringing us new life in Him for His glory and for us to serve Him in the world.
